Governor Steve Bullock stopped by The University of Montana on Friday, as part of his Back to School Tour of Montana schools.

Governor Bullock toured the Phyllis J. Washington Education Center and met with UM School of Education students, teachers and administrators.

After two weeks of touring schools all over the state, Bullock said he'd like to strengthen early childhood education.

He said he also aims to decrease dropout rates overall by keeping students engaged through innovative education methods relevant to the students.

Bullock said currently, 40% of Montana adults have degrees, and he'd like to increase that figure to 60%.

"I recognize that really, education is the most important thing for economic development, to give any student the opportunity to become whatever they want," Bullock said.

Bullock has met with students, teachers, parents and school administrators all over the state on his tour to discuss ways to ensure all Montana students are getting a quality education.

The governor also toured UM Western in Dillon and Hamilton School District's early learning program on Friday.
