Possibility Of Pay Bump For Some City Employees

Posted: Updated:
KALISPELL -

Some Kalispell city government workers might be getting a pay raise soon.

As part of the city budget passed this week, $70,000 was allotted for a proposed salary change for non-union city employees.

Coming up with the exact amount meant looking at neighboring cities and evaluating market costs.

Doug Russell, Kalispell's City Manager, says that it is done annually.

The planned two point five percent raise does not apply to union employees like police and firefighters--both unions have already seen pay raises this year.

Don't celebrate too fast, though. Unrepresented workers would not get to see all of this new money.

"State law enacted a one percent increase in our retirement contribution, so take that into account. So the take home is about 1.5% of that 2.5% and being below what the other jurisdictions did is a fairly conservative approach in terms of compensation," said Russell.

Right now, there are more than forty non-union employees working for the city.

The proposal is up for consideration in an open meeting Tuesday.
