Glacier National Park Changing With The Seasons

Posted: Updated:
WEST GLACIER -

Fall is almost here, meaning the leaves will be changing as well as some of the services at Glacier National Park.

Labor day is the last day visitors can take advantage of the free shuttle system accessing Logan Pass.

In fact, the last day to get to Logan Pass from West Glacier is October 20, from East Glacier it is September 22, so the park can do maintenance work on the Going-To-The-Sun Road.

Although open year-round, spokeswoman for Glacier National Park, Denise Germann, says there is a distinct drop in the number of visitors between Fall and their peak month of July-- when they saw about 650,000 people this year.

"Fall is beautiful in the park, some of the services may change, but the park is open and there's still several services. For example, the ranger-led activities, the guided hikes, continue through the month of September," said Germann.

Most of the campgrounds in the park are closing mid-September, but will allow primitive camping--without running water--a few more days after.

Several food and lodging providers will also close around the same time.
