Remains of Missing Man Located

The remains of a man missing near the Herman Gulch Trailhead have been found by Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement this afternoon.

John Flanigan, a 45-year-old Bozeman resident, had been reported missing by family members on August 22. Flanigan's vehicle had been located on Roosevelt Drive near the Herman Gulch Trailhead.

Officers from the Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department working with 3 dog teams from "Elkhorn Search and Rescue Dogs" and "True North Search Dogs" located the remains. From the condition of the remains it is believed the man had been deceased for 10 to 12 days. 

The remains have been transported by Butte-Silver Bow Coroner Lee LeBreche to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy. Further information will be released when available.
