Fire Vehicle Sprays Stop Noxious Weed Spread

Posted: Updated:
LOLO -
Hundreds of fire vehicles are working on the Lolo Creek Complex, and many can transport noxious weeds or their seeds in and out of the area.

To combat the spread of noxious weeds, fire officials partnered with CT Power Wash, a Dillon-based company that sprays down fire vehicles.

They said all vehicles leaving Lolo must be sprayed down with hoses, and drive over a rubber mat that shoots streams of water underneath the vehicles.

Mary Ann Smith of CT Power Wash said, "It's not really a car wash, we don't have soap and they have to do their own windows, but we do get under the undercarriage and try to get all them cross members clean and hopefully, they won't leave with big gobs of mud that fall off all the way home and spread our weed problem."

Officials said Russian knapweed, leafy spurge, and a variety of thistles are common in the Lolo area.

CT Power Wash employees said they've worked on four fires this season, and at the Gold Creek fire, they cleaned 45 vehicles every night.
