Crews Work to Protect Fire Lookout, Observatory

Posted: Updated:
LOLO CREEK -

Officials said the nearly 11,000-acre Lolo Creek Complex fire has seen little rain, and they've lost some resources to other fires in the surrounding area.

Fire fighters worked to protect the Blue Mountain Lookout tower and the University of Montana observatory today, which are threatened on the northern perimeter, where the fire remains active.

A BPA power line one mile south of Blue Mountain is also in the fire's path.

Full mop up patrol is underway on the east, west and south flanks of the fire, but the evacuation warning remains in effect for all residents along Highway 12.

All National Forest campgrounds along Highway 12 between Lolo Pass and the town of Lolo are closed to entry.
