Butte High Prepares to Defend State Title

Posted: Updated:
BUTTE -

While school has not yet started, it's not stopping the Butte High Bulldogs from studying up on their first opponent, Billings Senior.

"You know Billings Senior has a lot of talented kids," said Head Coach Arie Grey. "They have a big running back, athletic receivers, a good quarterback, and an active defense. The kids are excited to get ready to prepare for somebody else besides themselves. It's a lot of fun, and we'll be ready to roll."

On Friday night, Butte High will begin their quest to defend their state title.

There are big expectations for a team that lost some of its key players to graduation, including four out of five starters on the offensive line.

"We have huge shoes to fill," said senior left tackle, Johnny Walker. "I mean our line last year, unreal. They were huge. We have to step it up this year. We have to prove something to our whole town."

The Bulldogs return some of its stars that helped the magical run to a state title.

All-state quarterback, Dallas Cook, returns as the senior play caller.

This summer Cook and his teammates went to camps around the country where they excelled competing against other squads.

"We definitely know there's a target on our back," Cook said. "We're going to play how we normally play and get it done."

"He has to improve every day," said Grey. "He has make sure he is more of a vocal leader with the offense and with the team as a whole. He has to get everybody ready to roll, make sure they're focused and able to do those things."
