Work to improve the Brownes Lake Trail No. 1002 located in the East Pioneer Mountains has finished and the trail is now open hikers and stock travelling over Rock Creek Pass from Waukena Lake to Tahepia Lake.
Previously this trail was hazardous to stock as it included several steep pitches through rock and avalanche chutes. Brownes Lake Trail begins at the Rock Creek Trailhead near Brownes Lake. It is approximately five and a half miles to Waukena Lake, seven miles to Rock Creek Pass, eight miles to Tahepia Lake, and 15 miles to the Mono Creek Trailhead on the Wise River Ranger District.
The most of the trail is located within the Torrey Mountain Recommended Wilderness Area. Non-motorized and non-mechanized use is welcome.
