Bogert Pool Closes For The Season

Posted: Updated:
BOZEMAN -

It's a sign that summer is coming to an end. This is the last weekend for swimmers to enjoy Bogert Pool before it closes for the 2013 season.

This Sunday, Bogert Pool will close for the season.

"I love coming here because it's really relaxing," said Tamara Meyer, Bozeman resident. "I also like it because it's a safe environment, but you are still recreating."

Meyer said it's important that Bozeman has an outdoor pool.

"We're surrounded by rivers, waters and mountains in Montana. Swimming is a lifetime skill and swimming in a pool is the easiest way to learn," said Meyer.

Last year, the pool got a new filter system. This year, the pool had some issues with the boiler system.

"The boiler system was either cool or warm this year," said Dan McCarthy, Bozeman Aquatics Manager. "We were pretty happy to have it in a 10 degree range. We are definitely working on the boiler system for next year."

This fall and winter the city will be working on hiring a company to sand blast and repaint the pool.

"We have to cut out the drains out of the deep end," said McCarthy. "We will also remove about 10 to 15 feet of the deep end, put in new drains and re-cement it back in."

The city will also be working on replacing the boiler system to ensure the pool can open again next year.

"Whether we a retiring boiler system from one of the city's buildings or we purchase new broilers, somehow we're going to be putting some new heaters on the pool," said McCarthy.

So far, Bogert Pool has had over 17,000 people swim in the pool this year. Bozeman City Commissioners were split about building a splash park at Bozeman ponds.

At their meeting this Monday, Mayor Sean Becker will make the final decision if the splash park will be built there. If so, McCarthy said they will start putting out bids immediately.
