Cats & Griz to Compete in "Brawl of the Wild" Competition
If it wasn't a big enough rivalry before, it will definitely be one now.
The University of Montana and Montana State University announced Thursday they will be competing in an athletic-wide competition starting this year.
It's known as the "Brawl of the Wild" rivalry series.
The way it works is whenever the Griz and Cats play each other in any sport, the winner will be awarded points.
At the end of the year, the school with the most points will win the "Brawl of the Wild Trophy".
I think it's an outstanding concept," said Cat's Head Coach, Rob Ash. "All the games are important, all the games are intense, all the games mean a lot to our fans on both sides. It will be fun to keep score all year and see who's ahead."
"This involves all 13 sports," said Griz Head Coach, Mick Delaney. "It also involves stuff other than athletics. I think it's a great situation for everybody."
Community service is also important to the rivalry series.
Student athletes from both schools will participate in community outreach opportunities as part of the competition.
