Witnesses who saw the recent plane crash in West Yellowstone say the landing gear was extended and the plane's engine sounded normal.

The National Transportation Safety Board released its preliminary findings on Thursday. Witnesses told them the pilot attempted to make radio contact on the airport, but the pilot did not respond to the fix base operator's replies.

The plane crashed on the slope north of the runway at the West Yellowstone airport last week killing the pilot Andrezej Furmanski of Florida and North Dakota.

Kevin Avery from North Dakota was also injured in the crash. The airplane was registered to Avery enterprises, incorporated.
