The Sweet Sound Of Economic Stimulus

KALISPELL -

In its thirty-first year the Glacier Symphony and Chorale in Kalispell is not only making music, but also major money.

According to a report from a Bozeman consulting firm, the Symphony puts more than $1.27 million per year into the local economy as well as fifty-one jobs.

By the numbers, the Symphony works off an annual budget around $650,000 to entertain nearly 10,000 patrons each year.

Putting these figures in context gives them even more meaning when you consider the average arts patron is likely also purchasing food and childcare services, according to the Symphony's Executive Director, Alan Satterlee.

The Marketing and Media Relation Manager for the Symphony, Marti Kurth, says she still believes the music they're making is something of a hidden gem.

"Once in a while, people will say 'Oh I didn't know there was a symphony here' and they're always really pleasantly surprised when they find the symphony because we're very, very good. I say that without any hesitation," said Kurth.
