A K-9 unit may be coming to the Butte-Silver Bow County Law Enforcement Department.
Butte police are currently trying to find funding for a drug dog and a capable vehicle for the K-9.
Recently, two donations of $5,000 will help the department come closer to their goal of $30,000.
The first donation is from an anonymous donor via the Mark Rule and Company.
The second donation of $5,000 comes from Dale Markovich of the Summit Beverage Foundation.
Sheriff Ed Lester says the $10,000 for a K-9 unit will go a long way.
"First of all, I think we're going to be able to take more drugs off the street then we currently are, which is the goal," said Sheriff Ed Lester. "Secondly, if we can seize property and money, then we could put that money to work in our community to fight the war on drugs here."
Sheriff Lester says the department will need at least $20,000 more for a dog, a trainer, and a vehicle.
He says some of that money can come from the police budget and the drug seizure fund.
