Veteran's Supply Drive Well Outfitted

KALISPELL -

Beginning at eleven this morning, donations have been pouring into the Veterans Supply Drive at Moore Hearing in Kalispell.

Even before the official start time, the Supply Drive off Three Mile Drive--put on in conjunction with the Northwest Veteran's Food Bank--already amassed a sizeable amount of donations, including monetary donations that have been coming in all week from across the state. The high turnout makes for an auspicious debut.

"We do a lot of patient appreciation events, but we wanted to be a little bit more community focused," said Stacia Moore, owner of Moore Hearing and coordinator of the drive, "My husband and I are very tied into the veteran population. He is a veteran of the Navy, he's a submarine veteran, so it's just something we're passionate about."

Stacia Moore's husband, Terry Moore, served in the Navy from 1972 until 1978. He was also manning the station today to give back to his fellow veterans, comprising nearly ten percent of the Flathead's population.

"The Flathead Valley in particular has a high percentage of veteran population," said Terry Moore, "A lot of those are in need or homeless, to be more correct. So to try to do this, to help out is a way to give back, for me to give back to my fellow veterans who served in places I did not serve in."

One hundred percent of the dollars donated throughout the week will be matched by the Moore's, but Terry Moore says there is something they could use even more than cash.

"There's been a real run on those supplies, both food and household supplies, over the last several months that we haven't been able to keep up with it at the pantry," said Terry Moore.

Stacia Moore pointed out that the Northwest Veteran's Food Pantry provides for about six hundred people.

The Moores hope to make the drive an annual event. This year's drive closed at 6:00 p.m.
