The Three Forks Police Department will soon no longer exist, transferring duties to the Gallatin County Sheriff's Department.
The Three Forks City Council voted unanimously last night to contract with the sheriff's department for law enforcement services.
Gallatin County Sheriff's office will open a branch in Three Forks to better serve the western part of Gallatin County.
Right now only two officers make up the Three Forks police force.
Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin says they are excited about the change.
"It's a great thing for the city at Three Forks because you don't have to worry about hiring and firing and have a consistent coverage matter what happens always be sheriff's deputies there covering it," said Gootkin.
Gootkin says they will offer the positions in Three Forks to the two police officers at the Three Forks station.
The Gallatin County Sheriff's Department will take over the duties of the Three Forks Police Department September 1.
