New Interactive Display Board for Visitors at Hanford B Reactor

Posted: Updated:

NEAR RICHLAND, Wash.-- A new addition to the Hanford B Reactor tour promises to engage visitors in the area's history.

A new B Reactor display, the 100 B Area Facility Board is a model to scale of all the buildings used to run the B Reactor.

The board is designed to illustrate the grand scale of the B Reactor facilities and showcase the workers' accomplishments.

The board displays each replica building and illuminates the structures with a push of a button to match a description of the facility.

Within a few weeks there will be narrations that play as the model buildings light up.

"Getting B Reactor running, from the power plant, to the pump house, to down at the river, to the water lines, it's just amazing how they could do so much in such a short time," said Maynard Plahuta, B Reactor Museum Association.

Workers completed the infrastructure work in just 13 months.

The B Reactor Museum Association hopes the B Area model board will illustrate this impressive part of American history to the thousands of visitors that tour the reactor every year.

The model board cost $30,000 to put together.
