Baseball for Veterans

MISSOULA -

Two Loyola Sacred Heart High School students have already started on their senior project this summer helping out local veterans.

Matt McHugh and Tony Madsen have raised enough money to purchase 500 tickets to Osprey baseball games, which they have decided to give to Missoula's veterans.

It was a history lesson at Loyola High School that opened Matt McHugh and Tony Madsen's eyes to the hardships veterans undergo overseas and when they return from duty.

As a thank you, they want to treat our country's heroes to a night of America's favorite past time

"We felt like the veterans game would best fit us. We both use to play baseball and we just want to give a thank you to the veterans," Tony Madsen said.

Totaling a whopping 3,223 dollars, Matt Mchugh and Tony Madsen will send 500 purchased tickets for Missoula veterans to attend an Osprey game this month.

"We thought the Osprey game would be a big enough venue to really give them the honor they deserve," Matt McHugh said.

The pair headed to local businesses and asked for donations to purchase the tickets. It only took about two weeks for the two boys to reach the amount needed to purchase the tickets. Madsen and McHugh are now heading to Missoula Veterans Centers to hand out the 500 vouchers.

"I think it really shows some community pride. I think being a veteran, I think it's important we support veterans in the community and this shows some pretty cool strides, especially from the youth in Missoula," local veteran, Jason Conway said.

The baseball game is on August 18th against the Orem Owlz and The Missoula Osprey have also offered a free barbeque dinner before the game.

Madsen and McHugh said veterans can go to the local Veterans Center or UM Veterans Education Offices to pick up a ticket for the game.
