Swan Valley Couple Recognized For Land Stewardship

MISSOULA -

A Swan Valley couple is being recognized by Missoula County for the work they've put into managing their property.

Missoula county commissioners announced David and Kathryn Owen are the recipients of the 2013 Land Stewardship Award. The award recognizes people who take caring for their land and water to the next level.

The Owen's spent the past 40 years carefully managing their forest land located on Buck Creek.

County officials said they use proactive measures, like working with their neighbors to prevent noxious weed invasions, and protecting native plant growth.

"I think the stewardship practices they've been doing has really had affects beyond their parcel of land, which I think is extremely important, and they practice a very thoughtful stewardship," said Kali Becher of the Missoula County Community and Planning Services.

The Owens get their award at a ceremony on Wednesday on their property.
