Legislation planed help Montana's timber industry hydropower development is one step away from a full vote in the U.S. House.
On Wednesday, the House Natural Resources committee will markup two bills proposed by Representative Steve Daines.
Daines says the "Restoring Healthy Forests for Healthy Communities Act" would protect the health of our forests by addressing beetle kill and reducing the threat of wildfires in Montana.
Another bill he authored would allow irrigation districts in Montana and other western states to use hydropower on Bureau of Reclamation canals, ditches and conduits.
The markup, which is required before both bills reach the house floor, will take place Wednesday.
