The latest information from the Missoula County Sheriff's Department:

The Missoula County Sheriffs Office announces that all homes north of Interstate 90 from the eastern reaches of Fred Lane west bound to Mill Creek and Spring Hill are receiving evacuation notices. The notices are currently voluntary but strongly encouraged. Residents may not receive second notification depending on the development of the fire and accessibility. Residents with disabilities or immobility are encouraged to evacuate as quickly as possible. Residents that have not yet been evacuated in the surrounding area are asked to ready their family and animals for evacuation. Small pets evacuated from vacant homes are being transported to Animal Control on Butler Creek. Staging for large livestock and horses will be at the Missoula County Fair Grounds. According to 911 reports, the fire was caused from a spark that was ignited from a lawnmower. Several hundred homes have received notices.

Fire officials say the Mill Creek Fire is about 100 acres. They say many homes are evacuated, but right now no structures are immediately threatened. Frontage Road and Mill Creek Road are closed. Homes on Tookie Trek and Hawthorn Springs are evacuated.

Officials say it looks like a boy started the fire while mowing a lawn. They say the boy is with officials and so far there are no injuries reported.

Fire officials say they are working hard to control the spread of the fire, but fear it will continue to spread.  We have reporters on the scene and will have a live report tonight on the ABC MONTANA news at 5:30.
