Father and Son Cherish Coach Player Relationship

Posted: Updated:
East All Star head coach Les Meyer coaches at Fairfield, but for the past four years, has coached his son Tucker, who also played for the East. Their player coach relationship has brought them closer together, but has also given Tucker a great football mind.

"It's actually been a really good thing for me because every time I wanted to work out or go throw back in my high school days I could do that he was always there for me and ready to work," said Tucker Meyer.

"Him always on the sideline telling me what play we should be running. That's just a fun dynamic he thinks like a coach he's got a mind for it. I think someday that's what he'll wind up doing," said dad Les Meyer.

It's a different dynamic when you're coaching your son, and the expectations are higher.

"When your kid is the player or quarterback you expect a lot out of him and sometimes you're a lot harder on your own child them somebody else it was a really good experience for me and I just hope it was a good experience for him," said Les Meyer.

Tucker will be playing at Rocky Mountain this Fall, and it'll be a little weird not having his dad around.

"It's definitely going to be different I'm used to having him around all the time but I like the coaches there they're good coaches and he'll be at a lot of game," said Tucker.

"You're going to make me emotional. It's just a bond we'll share it's hard to put words into it but I know what he's thinking after a win or loss and he knows what I'm thinking after a win or loss really not even saying anything," said Les.
