UM Teachers Learn About Google Geographic Technology

MISSOULA -

University of Montana educators are learning how to bring the latest geographic technology to the classroom. The Montana Google Geo Institute got underway on Wednesday at UM.

Almost 80 teachers from across the globe are taking part in the two-day workshop. Through a variety of exercises, teachers get hands-on experience using "Google Geo" tools like Google Earth and Google Maps. Organizers hope the teachers figure out unique ways to incorporate the tools in their classes.

"Geo tools in general are revolutionizing how we see the world, in terms of how scientists are doing their work, and as well as how people are learning in the classroom, so we want to make sure our teachers in Montana are using the innovative strategies that are out there to engage students, so their learning is maximized to the fullest potential," said Lisa BLank, an Education professor at the university.

UM was one of two places chosen nationwide to hold the workshop. The other is in California.
