New Guide Available For Landscape To Conserve Water

Posted: Updated:

BOZEMAN - A new guide helps inform Montanans on how to conserve water, while maintaining your landscape.

The Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee and Montana State University partnered to create the new xeriscaping guide.

A traditional 10,000 square foot Kentucky bluegrass lawn requires about 3,800 gallons of water per week.

With the xeriscaping lawn, that same area would only require about 2,300 gallons of water per week.

"In urban areas, it has been calculated that during the summer about half of the water used in urban areas goes for watering landscaping," said Jane Ruchman, Greater Yellowstone Coordinating Committee Sustainable Subcommittee Forest Representative.
