New Exhibit Prepares For The Gallatin County Fair

Posted: Updated:

BOZEMAN - The 110th Gallatin County fair opens on Wednesday and vendors have been setting up all day.

"We have sheep, goats, donkeys and a giant horse," said Connie Boger, Animals Specialities co-owner.

For the first time the Animals Specialities will be at the fair. The exhibit is an agriculture education area.

"Agriculture is very important to the state of Montana, so we need to let people know how important that really is," said Boger.

The attraction also features special AG facts about Montana.

"If a person ate two slices of bread every day, an acre of wheat will feed 144 people for a year," said Boger.

The exhibit featured about 50 pens full of goats, sheep, chickens, a giant pig and an eight foot 2,500 pound horse named Big John. Boger said it's a lot of work to transport all the animals and set-up.

"It takes four pick ups, four semis and a pick up to get it down the road," said Boger. "We started setting up on Monday about noon."

Fairgrounds manager, Sue Shockley said to celebrate the 110th year of the fair there will be lots of free things for kids to do.

"We have a pedal power tracker pole, the young guns fun center, Freddy Fusion and all about science," said Shockley.

Shockley said there will be about 80 vendors.

"We have some in the Hayes Pavilion in building number two and then out on the mid-way. You can find everything from henna tattoos to graphics to peel and stick on your vehicle," said Shockley.

She said she is very grateful for all the support the community has for the fair year after year.

"It's amazing to me that we've been here for that long and people have been supporting the fairgrounds and coming to county fairs," said Shockley.

Shockley expects over 50,000 people to attend the fair this year. To find out more about the events at the fair, click here.
