Outfitters Offer Tips For Hikers

Search and Rescue crews were busy in Big Sky over the weekend.

Saturday, they helped a man who was having problems getting back to the Lava Lake Trailhead.

Friday a woman was injured in a horseback accident in the back country near Elkhorn Ridge.

Outfitters said you can help rescue crews by being fully prepared when you head into the back country.

"It's really important to keep an eye on the weather," said Amy Wiezalis, Grizzly Outfitters.  "Storms can blow in pretty quickly so it is important to have extra layers plenty of food and water. And you have to be concerned about carrying some first aid items."

Wiezalis said when you set out into the back country, you should always be prepared to spend the night under the stars in case something goes wrong.
