Big Sky Resort Becoming A Summer Destination

Big Sky Resort is known for skiing in the winter, but it is also becoming a hot summer destination.

"Back in 2009, that's when they started seeing the vision of becoming that summer resort," said Sheila Chapman, PR Manager for Big Sky Resort. "Before that was a quiet resort."

Chapman said the summer activities have grown a lot since then, adding activities every year.

"We also have our lone peak expedition, which is probably one of our signature activities here," said Chapman. "It takes you up all the way to the peak of lone peak mountain."

The expedition was new last year, and new this year is a second zip line tour opening this weekend.

Tim Chamberlain, tour guide and "Base Camp" supervisor, said there is a major difference between the existing Nature Zip Line Tour and the new Adventure Zip Lining Tour.

"On the Adventure Tour, your reaching speeds of up to about 36 mph," said Chamberlain. "It's also a canopy tour so you're pretty much in the air with your group for almost the whole entire time. The Nature Tour you're reaching speeds of about 20-25 mph and it's a real easy starter zip line."

By the time you're done with the Adventure Zip Line Tour, you would've zipped for about a mile. Chamberlain said if you don't want to zip for that long, you might want to stick with the Nature Zip Line Tour.

"It is a guided tour and everyone stays as a group as everyone will move thru the course," said Chamberlain.

Besides zip lining, the resort also offers a giant swing, miniature golf, a bungee trampoline and a rock climbing wall.

Chapman said people from across the country are enjoying the resort during the summer.

"We get people from all sorts of different states," said Chapman. "They come here to maybe check out Yellowstone National Park."

The Big Sky Resort is open for the summer June through October. It will open again for the winter season around Thanksgiving.
