Chanin Starbuck Murder Case To Be On 'Dateline' Nationwide Friday Night

Posted: Updated:

SPOKANE, Wash. – It's a classic show millions of Americans have watched for years and this week "Dateline" heads to the Inland Northwest showcasing a tragic murder that left a mother dead and a father behind bars. A little more than a month ago a jury convicted Clay Starbuck for the murder of his ex-wife Chanin Starbuck.

Keith Morrison talked with KHQ Local News Reporter Alex Rozier about the case. Morrison, one of the most distinctive voices in broadcast journalism, will be reporting for the two hour special that will air Friday night nationwide.

"He's a smart guy with an iron trap of a memory," Morrison said of Clay Starbuck. "When you talk to Clay Starbuck, he has answers for everything. Clear answers, well put, but ya know, ya wonder?"

In the Starbuck case his kids believe Clay is innocent but all of Chanin's family believes in his guilt.

"When you ask them why they believe in those things, the answers, are they convincing on either side?" Morrison asked. "I don't know."

"The Starbuck story is really interesting because it just has a lot of layers and the characters are fascinating."

You can watch the two-hour Dateline special Friday night beginning at 9 p.m.
