Text, Facebook Alerts Available for Marathon Runners

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

New technology will allow Missoula Marathon runners to have their race results and real time updates pushed out to Facebook and anyone who is signed up for marathon text alerts.

Two Montana businesses will distribute radio-frequency chips runners tie to their shoes.

When a runner crosses over a mat containing an antennae, that runner's individual time is recorded online.

Also new this year -- a smart phone app for runners and their friends and families.

Lance Fisher, founder of the company Races and Faces, said, "If you run a race and you want to get your result, like right after you cross the finish line, and you don't want to go wait in line to see it on the kiosk computers, you can just scan your bib and see it right on your phone."

To sign up for automatic text message results for a marathon runner -- text that runner's bib number to (406) 203-3963.
