More Housing Needed For Displaced Vantage Villa Residents

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

Missoula Housing Authority officials are asking for help finding housing for almost half of the households displaced in the Vantage Villa Apartment Complex fire.

The MHA has worked to relocate the residents since an arson fire last month damaged 41 units.

The agency spent about $100,000 on emergency shelter in a local motel, per diem and moving tenants' belongings. They say available funds will last two more weeks.

Here's what's needed:  Immediately available studio or one-bedroom units, especially those that are accessible for persons who are mobility impaired. Rent including utilities needs to be around $650 per month and within MHA's jurisdiction (city limits plus ten miles). Units at a minimum must have a private bathroom and kitchen. Nearby public transportation is ideal but not required. Reconstruction of Vantage Villa is estimated to take six to twelve months, so six-month leases are preferred.

Landlords with housing units that fit the needs, please contact Karl Pare at the Missoula Housing Authority at (406) 549-4113, ext. 124.
