Ten Officers on Lookout for Fireworks in City

Posted: Updated:
MISSOULA -

Thursday evening, there will be ten extra police officers patrolling for violators of Missoula's ban on shooting fireworks within city limits.

MPD officials said their officers -- joined by fire department officials -- will issue $100 citations for first-time violators, and $300 for repeat offenders.

Police said they've already issued a number of tickets over the past two days.

"The last couple years we've spent a lot of time on education, and this year the city council and the mayor talked about it and worked with the police chief -- Mark Muir -- and they've decided to step it up and this year we'll be working a lot on the enforcement of that ordinance," said Sgt. Casey Richardson.

If you see or hear fireworks within city limits, officials said to call the city-county Fireworks Report Line at 285-4850.
