Montana State Capitol Evacuation

Posted: Updated:

The Montana State Capitol was evacuated this afternoon after a suspicious package was sent to Governor Steve Bullock's office.

Officials said the package contained a piece of cloth wrapped in tape and was opened by Bullock's letter handler.

Members of the Helena Fire Department, police, and capitol security determined no explosives were in the package. Authorities quarantined Bullock's letter handler while they tested the package for illicit substances.

While it is not clear how many people were in the capitol, everyone was escorted from the building and sent home for the day.
