Kalispell City Council Reads Ordinance For Panhandlers

Posted: Updated:

KALISPELL - Kalispell City Council will meet Monday to conduct the first reading of an ordinance proposed to ban panhandlers.

Recently council members received several complaints from community members and businesses about panhandling throughout the city.

The proposed panhandling ordinance will prohibit panhandling within 20 feet of street intersections and bus stops. The activity will also be restricted within 20 feet of an automated teller machine or in vehicles.

"The overall council drafted and put together an ordinance that would kind of identify some of those perimeters and see what comes of it when we introduce it for potential adoption,"  City Manager Doug Russell said. The reading will take place Monday at 7p.m. in the City Hall Chambers.
