Officer on Administrative Leave after Casino Shooting

MISSOULA -

The Missoula County Sheriff's Office releases the names of the officer and suspect involved in a shooting at a casino in Missoula.

Sheriff's officials said Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Stineford was involved in the shooting, which took place during a drug investigation.

Stineford is on administrative leave with pay during the investigation, which is now being conducted by the Ravalli Co. Sheriff's Office.

The suspect who was shot is Harry Louis Steven VanPelt, 37. VanPelt received injuries to his leg from the shooting.

He was released from the hospital on Saturday, and is now in custody at the Missoula Co. Detention Center.

 


 

An officer involved shooting has closed down part of W. Broadway Friday afternoon.

Ravalli County Officials are now investigating the shooting. Officials said a drug task force officer fired the shots and the victim has non-life threatening injuries. The incident happened near the Magic Diamond Casino on West Broadway.

Officials said a drug investigation was underway when officers tried to arrest the suspect and he or she fled.
