Vantage Villa Arson Suspect Charged

Posted: Updated:

The Deputy Missoula County Attorney have charged Travis David Crosby with one count of arson in connection with last weeks structure fire at Vantage Villa on East Broadway. Residents of the building told investigators that Crosby had admitted to starting the fire.

During Crosby's interview with detectives, he admitted to deliberately starting the fire by lighting a chair with matches. He said that he started the fire because he was angry about an eviction notice he had received.

The apartment complex sustained heavy damage on the third level of the 41-unit complex. Firefighters responded at 3:00 p.m. Thursday and battled the blaze for several hours, finally gaining the upper hand at 8:30 p.m. The complex houses a number of disabled tenants who had to be evacuated by fire personnel.

Missoula Housing estimated the fire damages will total between 3-5 million dollars.

There were no injuries reported, however all occupants have been displaced and are awaiting temporary housing.
