Caras Park Pavilion Gets New Canvas Walls

MISSOULA -

Missoula's popular Caras Park Pavilion, located in the heart of town, has new, synthetic canvas paneling, allowing the structure to be used as a year-round venue.

The Missoula Downtown Association, City Parks and Recreation and architects teamed up to construct the new wall system two years ago.

The new, $130,000 system allows the walls to be raised and lowered like a roman shade into valances.

MDA officials said the Parks and Rec. Department and other public and private donors provided the funds for the new walls.

"Well, it's going to save quite a few hours, to drop the cords and hook up the curtain rod attachments that they had before, and bring the curtains out of storage, it took hours for two people to do it, now one person can do it in literally minutes," said Principal of Brehm Architects, A.I.A. and MDA Board Member Larry Brehm.

The walls are part of a $400,000 project to improve Caras Park over several years.

Caras Park is used for more than 80 events every year, which help boost Missoula's economy.

The next phase of the project includes replacing the aging Pavilion roof and making upgrades to the Park water station.
