Nine Mile Homicide Follow: PTSD Linked To Suspects In Other Violent Crimes

Posted: Updated:

KHQ.COM - The suspect in the homicide investigation in Nine Mile Falls has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, according to his estranged wife.  Jessica Hart says her husband, Jason Hart, had PTSD after returning from the Iraq War.

Hart's case follows a string of others where the suspect is linked to PTSD, a mental illness that comes after a person suffers a traumatic event, like war.  Just last month, Anthony Alvarez - a Vietnam veteran with PTSD, according to his son - shot his two adult daughters and then killed himself.  In Texas, Eddie Ray Routh is accused of killing a former Navy SEAL and shooting his neighbor in February.  The two incidents are just the latest headlines linking suspects in violent crimes to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

June is designated PTSD awareness month according to the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs.  The government website offers information on the disorder and ways to get help.
