Belgrade Vehicle Thefts Spur Manhunt

Posted: Updated:

BELGRADE - On Thursday, local law enforcement responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from a business near Hulbert road and Jackrabbit, but that was only one of three cars stolen on Thursday.

"The first vehicle was stolen off of Hulbert and Jackrabbit. The second vehicle was stolen way north of Belgrade, way out in the county at one of the farm houses up there," said Dan Springer, Gallatin County UnderSheriff.

Officers located the second vehicle, but were unable to catch the suspect.

"The suspect went off road again off east Frontage road, crossed over the railroad tracks onto the Interstate, crossed both lanes of the Interstate and came to rest at Business Hub road," said Springer. "Once it went off road, the deputies were unable to follow it. The vehicle was damaged so much that the suspect stole another vehicle from another resident's house that way."

The suspect stole another vehicle, a white GMC extended cab truck, which was later spotted at a gas station in Madison County.

"Ultimately we learned that he had stolen a third vehicle and had already left the area by the time we had arrived," said Springer.

Mike Hetherington is the President of Cold Waste, located where deputies responded to the second stolen vehicle.

"I saw a squat car pull up on Business Hub drive lights on, it stopped quickly, officers jumped out of the car and starting racing south," Hetherington said.

He knew something bad was happening so he kept looking out the windows and locked the doors.

SPOKANE, Wash. - One of the great parts about living in Spokane, is if you head out of town in any direction, you're going to run into some beautiful farm land. I grew up south of Spokane, near Plaza, and one of my favorite things to do was to sit on the porch at night and stare south towards Rosalia at all of the rolling hills of wheat, lentils, barley and peas.
