Senate Passes Stolen Valor Act

Posted: Updated:

HELENA- This week the Senate passed a measure to make lying about receiving military decorations or medals a federal crime.

A previous version of the bill, known as the Stolen Valor Act, was found unconstitutional last year.

Senator Jon Tester worked to rewrite the measure to address the Supreme Court's concern.

Tester said, "With Memorial Day approaching, I am pleased that we were able to unanimously pass a bill that ensures we honor our true American heroes."

The legislation also passed the House of Representatives and awaits a signature from President Obama.
