BUTTE -

While airplanes are taking off and landing, the average traveler not notice a portion of Butte's Bert Mooney Airport, that also serves as a training facility for the United States Military.

Rod Alne served his country for 27 years as a pararescueman in the air force special operations.

While serving he realized he didn't have proper training in high altitude and mountainous areas.

When he retired, he came to butte and started Peak Incorporation.

"Our main focus is military training for folks coming out," said Alne. "Our specialty is on mountainous terrain. That could be from ice and rock climbing, to using horses, snow mobiles, or ATVs."

The small company focuses on training the countries hero's from all branches of the military in high altitude conditions.

The facility chose Butte because of the mountains and a landscape that resembles those overseas.

The Peak offers multiple training techniques, all of which focus on mountain skills.

"Everything you need to move in the mountains," said Mark Gollinger from Peak. "Back-country skiing, avalanche awareness, ATVs, snow mobiles, horse packing, cross country skiing, rock climbing, ice climbing, the whole nine yards."

All the training the Peak conducts is within 45 minutes of Butte and trains around 15 people at a time.

And the training our nation's heroes receive in the Mining City will help them when they need it overseas.

"So it's all about mobility and travel in harsh terrain is the focus of what we do," Alne said.

Peak Incorporation says the are expanding outside of the military training.

They plan to begin extreme teamwork exercises with local corporations.
