Commissioners Discuss New Ice Arena

Posted: Updated:

BOZEMAN - On Tuesday, Gallatin County Commissioners will vote on a decision to help the Bozeman Amateur Hockey Association expand the ice arena facilities at the fairgrounds.

Commissioners will look at the financial aspects and business plan of how BAHA and the fairgrounds plan to pay for the $1.15 million ice arena.

According to plans, BAHA will pay about $912,000 to build the ice arena. The rest of the funding will come from the fairgrounds.

Finance Director, Ed Blackman said they are looking at all possibilities to build another ice arena in the county.

"The big key is how are they going to be able to pay for it ongoing," said Blackman. "They might have to increase their fees that's up to them, but the big thing is that this is going to allow them to expand their services."

Currently, more than 1,000 people use the Haynes Pavilian to skate each week.
