Graduation Brings Millions To Missoula Economy

Posted: Updated:

With thousands of students walking the stage this year, Missoula was looking busy with guests on Friday.

The people at Destination Missoula said about 5,000 visitors are in town for graduation. With hotels and restaurants filling up, numbers from Destination Missoula show about $2.6 million will be spent in the Garden City this weekend.

"This is great having them come in May," said Mary Holmes with Destination Missoula. "We're still kind of in our soft, shoulder season for tourism in general in Missoula, so it helps boost tourism right now. It's also a great time for tourists to see what Missoula has to offer, because it's not too busy yet, so they can really get out and see what Missoula is truly about."

The numbers are estimated by assuming each graduate has three guests in town.
