MHP Urges People To Buckle Up

MISSOULA -

The Montana Highway Patrol is joining a national campaign encouraging drivers to buckle up. Additional patrols will be on Montana roads starting Monday for the 2013 "Click It or Ticket" campaign.

Numbers from the Montana Highway Patrol show almost 80 percent of those who died in crashes in the state so far this year were not wearing seatbelts. That's a 32 percent increase from the same time last year.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Robert Strauch said, "I have investigated multiple fatality crashes that if a seat belt had been used, if they had been worn, or worn properly, they would have survived the crash."

The campaign runs through June 2nd, but officers warn drivers they enforce seatbelt laws year-round.
