GNP Invites Public to Going-to-the-Sun Road Presentation

Posted: Updated:

KALISPELL - Glacier National Park officials said the Going-to-the-Sun Road is expected to open early June.

As of May 14, snow plow crews have reached Avalanche Creek. This update comes as Glacier National Park officials prepare for a special presentation on the Sun Road Rehabilitation Project this week.

The project started back in 2007 when crew members began working on the west side of the road.

It will include new drainage pipes at Alpine Road with new pavement that will continue on the east side of the road. The improvement projects are expected to be complete in 2017.

"It's a great opportunity to actually have some interaction with some of the engineers that are working on the road learn a little bit about the cultural and natural resources that have been preserved along the road,"  Park Spokeswoman Denise Germann said.

The free event will begin Wednesday from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Flathead National Forest office in Kalispell.
