Crime Tracker: Tracking Crime Alerts In Your Neighborhood

SPOKANE, Wash - Feeling safe in your community requires you stay alert to the crime trends that happen in your neighborhood.  Now, thanks to technology you can stay on top of the crimes that happen near you.

The Spokane Police Department's crime map breaks down which crimes happen in areas throughout the City.  It allows users to put their address into the interactive map and get a look at the crimes that happen near their home.  However, SPD goes a step further and provides a resource that allows you to sign up to receive emails with updates on crimes and news that happens near you. 

SPD isn't alone.  Many law enforcement agencies offer similar alerts.  For example, Grant County offers a mobile app to keep residents aware of crime alerts happening near them.  It also has a public information tool called Nixle, which provides daily news from the Sheriff's Office and emergency alerts to your email or via text message.

Law enforcement agencies are also joining the social network scene.  Twitter and Facebook users can follow their local law enforcement agencies on these social media websites to stay informed.  The resources provide a direct link between you and the law enforcement agencies working to protect your community.
