Missoula Marathon Registration Fills Up

Posted: Updated:

Missoula Marathon organizers put a cap on the number of race entrants for the first time this year, and the registration for the full marathon is already maxed out.

Race organizers say 1,500 runners and walkers will race in the full marathon.

They said you can still register for the half-marathon, which has 3,000 spots, or in the 5K race, which has 1,000 spots for racers.

"People come to Missoula for a great event, and by being able to know exactly how many people are going to show up, we're able to put on a better event. We're able to plan better, prepare better, it's just going to make race day so much better for everybody involved," said Anders Brooker, Race Director.

Organizers said they have hundreds of volunteers on race day, and a committee of about 50 people who plan for the event all year.

They said the races have gained popularity primarily because of the huge amount of community support during past races.

UPDATE: Officials say the massive wildfire that has destroyed about 150 homes in north-central Washington is now more than half contained. Firefighters made good progress Wednesday as rain and hail fell. The moisture wasn't enough to extinguish the nearly 400-square-mile Carlton Complex of fires, but it gave crews a chance to dig lines along the south and east parts of the fire.
