South Entrance Opens In Yellowstone National Park

Posted: Updated:

WEST YELLOWSTONE - Vehicles lined up early Friday morning to enter the newly-opened south entrance at Yellowstone National Park.

Beginning at 8 a.m., park visitors were able to travel through the south entrance to Grant Village, West thumb junction and onto Fishing Bridge across Craig pass to Old Faithful. The road from Cooke City to the Chief Joseph scenic highway also opened on Friday.

Although sequestration pushed back the opening of the north entrance by a week this year, both the south and east entrances opened as originally scheduled.

The fundraising efforts of Cody and Jackson, Wyoming made it possible for the Wyoming Department of Transportation to help the National Park Service with snow removal this year.
