No New Boating Rules On Echo Lake

Posted: Updated:

KALISPELL - Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks officials said they do not plan to propose any new boating rules on Echo Lake after the FWP Commission voted not to issue boating regulations on the lake.

The commission met Thursday in Helena to discuss the proposed rules.

The first rule would have created a permanent "no wake" zone on Causeway Bay. The second rule would have banned wake enhancing boats which create waves on the lake for skiing or water boarding purposes.

The third rule would have established Echo Lake Abbott Lake and Peterson Lake as a "no wake" zone during high water levels of 5 feet or less from the deck of Cause-Way Bridge.

"The commission voted and it was a split vote 2 to 2 which means the motion passed, the commission decided not to impose any new rules on Echo Lake,"  FWP Supervisor Jim Satterfield said.

In February, FWP held a public hearing and received three petitions from the public to change boating regulations on Echo Lake.
