KALISPELL - A Flathead County employee is accused of embezzling and stealing from the Sheriff's department.
36-year-old Nicole Fister, was charged with felony theft and common scheme Wednesday in Flathead County District Court after allegedly embezzling $ 90,000 from the Employees Association account.
"It's always difficult when someone who is one of your friends or co-workers who is involved in a incident like this, it's being treated just like it would be for any other case no matter where the person works," Flathead County Sheriff Chuck Curry said.
Fister worked with the Sheriff's Office for the last 9 years. During her time, she was a civilian employee and treasurer of the Flathead County Sheriff's Office Employee Association.
The case came to light in mid-April and was investigated through the Flathead County Sheriff Detective Division. Fister was fired immediately after the alleged thefts were discovered.
"Right now we are still conducting forensic audits of the accounts, we know it's probably at least $90,000 over the course of the last couple of years," Curry said.
Sheriff said no county funds or tax dollars were taken out of the accounts.
Fister's case is expected to go to trial July 31. If convicted, she will face up to 10 years in state prison and pay a fine of $50,000
The Employees Association is a non-profit based organization. Funds from the account are used to support charitable causes in Flathead Valley.
