MISSOULA - The Missoula City-County Health Department is on a mission to stop prescription drug abuse.
The health department is inviting the community to take part in the National Drug Enforcement Agency "Take Back" drug event on Saturday. People are invited to bring in prescription drugs they don't need anymore.
Health officials said the event helps prevent drug abuse, and keeps the city's water supply clean, by keeping people from flushing their medications down the toilet.
Public Health Nurse, Kari Sproull, said, "Prescription drug abuse has become a national epidemic-- only getting use teenagers are under the impression they are safe because they come from a doctor but were seeing more and more deaths each years."
The event starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Southgate Mall. Nurses said they are accepting all over-the-counter and prescription medications. They are not accepting needles or syringes.
