Kids learn about Hanford Reach by painting Christmas ornaments

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash.-- It's that time of year to be decorating a Christmas tree and the Hanford Reach Interpretive Center's community program organized an ornament decorating event Saturday at the Richland Community Center.

The ornaments were in the shapes of different animals native to the Hanford Reach National Monument lands.

Kids learned about the animals and the region while getting a chance to be creative and enjoy some holiday fun.

"The Hanford Reach wants to have activities throughout the year for families as a way, one of introducing the community back to the Hanford Reach National Monument, as well as celebrating the stories and the rich heritage of our region," said Stephanie Button, REACH programs coordinator.

The REACH plans to make the ornament decorating an annual event for families to teach their kids about the area.

They also provide educational activities for local student groups to make sure students in the region know about the history and habitat.
